Today, we are learning that the Long I sound can be written with -igh like in night, light, sight and firefighter. We also completed a worksheet with some of this vocabulary.

Long /i/ Sound with -i Spelling
We know that sometimes the letter i makes a short sound like in big, sit and pig. But today, we reviewed that it also makes the long sound like in Friday, triangle and tiger. We copied the words in our Phonics Dictionary. You can practice saying the words with us in the video below.

The Sounds of the Letter Yy
Today, we reviewed the three different sounds of the letter Yy. Then, we sorted the words on the board. You can see us do it in the video below.
Did you know that the letter y is a consonant and a vowel? When it is at the beginning of a word, it is a consonant like in yogurt, yo-yo and yes. When it is at the end of a word by itself, it is a vowel and can make two sounds:
-Long E like in happy, mommy and rainy (in long words)
-Long I like in my, fly and cry (in short words)
