Tendremos dictado y examen sobre los días de la semana el martes 5 de diciembre. Los días de la semana siempre empiezan con mayúscula en inglés. También tienen que saber escribir la fecha en una frase (Today is Tuesday, December 5th, 2023). En la segunda parte del examen, tienen que poder decir cual día es el anterior y posterior a un día dado (yesterday and tomorrow). Lo trabajaremos mucho en clase esta semana. Remember that the days of the week always start with a capital letter: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

This week, we worked on the -ai and -ay spellings of long a sound. We copied the vocabulary in our new Phonics Dictionary.

Today, we learned that the /r/ sound can also be written wr- like in write, wrist and wrong. Let´s review the vocabulary!

This week, we learned that the /f/ sound has three spellings:

-f like in fish, Friday and frog

-ph like in elephant, telephone and saxophone

-gh like in laugh, enough and cough

R-controlled Vowels: -er, -ir and -ur

Yesterday, we learned about the -er sound like in sister, farmer and computer. Today, we have learned that we can also write this sound with -ir like in bird, girl and birthday, and with the -ur like in nurse, Thursday and hamburger. Let´s review!

Today, we have learned that the letters -er make the sound that we hear in mother, December and marker. We copied a long list of words that we know with this sound in our Phonics Dictionary.

Today, we have celebrated Halloween at school. We read the book On a Windy Night by Nancy Raines Day. After recess, we danced the Pumpkin Man Freeze with the fifth graders,  we played games and we trick-or-treated. We had a great time!

This week, we are working with the /ng/ sound like in ring, strong and looking. We have also practiced the structure "I am + verb+ing":

Today, we learned that the letters -th can make two different sounds.

Sometime th makes the same sound as in think, thank you and bathroom. But sometimes the th can make a sound similar to the /z/ like in the, this, mother and weather.

Today we are going to learn about the /th/ sound like in Thursday, think and bathroom. 

The two sounds of th -1

This week, we learned that the letters th can make two different sounds. Sometimes, they make the same sound as in bathroom, think and mouth. However, they can also make the same sound as in father, weather and there. 

The /z/ sound with z and s

Today, we reviewed two spellings for the /z/ sound:

- z like in zoo, puzzle and zero

- s like in toes, nose and goes

Making the /Z/ sound with -s

We have already learned that the /z/ sound can be written with the letter z like in zipper, zoo and zero. Today, we will learn that the s sometimes makes the /z/ sound too, like in nose, rose and easy.

/Zz/ Sound, Song and Vocabulary Review

Today, we are reviewing the /z/ sound like in zebra, buzz and zipper.
